Assisted Living Facilities

Assisted living facilities are a relatively new option in long term care. Assisted living centers provide assistance with the activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and using the bathroom, to individuals who may need daily help with one or more activities of daily living.

Residents of assisted living homes receive around the clock medical supervision, including meals, access to therapy services, and a variety of daily activities to round out their days, nights, and weekends. Social and recreational activities are usually planned and overseen by the staff.

Assisted living facilities are designed to bridge the gap between independent living and nursing home care, and provide a higher level of services for their residents including meals, housekeeping, medication assistance, laundry, and regular checks-ins. Residents live in apartment style housing and may also bring special furniture and accessories from home to personalize their rooms. Payment options include private funds and long term care insurance.

Some assisted living facilities have health services on site. In most cases, assisted living residents pay a regular monthly rent, and then pay additional fees for the services that they receive. The term “Assisted Living” may mean different things in different facilities. Not all assisted living facilities provide the same services. It is important you contact the facility directly to make sure that they can provide you the required assistance you need.
